The Closed Louver style is reminiscent of traditional fully functional louvered shutters and they happen to be our forte!
There are many advantages to the Closed Louver shutter:

-No spaces between the louvers allow for an easy to paint and much easier to maintain shutter.
-You’re much less likely to get winged or furry creatures nesting behind the shutter!
-Their design makes them extraordinarily strong and durable.
-We can build them in 1-2 weeks.

You won’t find many shops that can build this style shutter, but we can and no one does it better!

Open Louver

Open Louver

Shown here in clear cedar, our Open Louver shutters include the Bermuda and Bahama styles as well as exterior Plantation style. Open Louvers have presentable fronts and backs, as well as allowing some light and air to pass through the shutter.

Open Louver are required where the shutter must be able to be closed in front of the window. They are also commonly used for permanently mounting over vents, exits,etc. Open louver shutters are also sometimes utilized as closet doors.

We offer 4 different standard styles of Raised Panel shutters. RP1 which is a clear Western Red Cedar frame with Extira® panels. RP2 & RP3 which are all Western Red Cedar (frame & panels) and RPE, which is an All Extira® Raised Panel shutter.

Extira® is a wood composite that is impervious to water, weather and insects. We feel that the real wood / composite combination makes a long-lasting and beautiful Raised Panel shutter.

Your choice – and any way you choose will be beautiful.

Board & Batten

Board and Batten

Board & Batten style wood shutters are very popular across the south and northeast. Shown here in knotty pine, the Closed Board & Batten style is typical for cottages and barns while the Open Board and Batten is a great accent for picket fences or porch rails.

B&B shutters have been associated with barns, cottages and the Cape Cod style homes. They definitely lend themselves to the "country" look. B&B shutters have been gaining popularity and are becoming quite trendy (as far as shutters go!)

Our standard B&B shutters have a ⅛ space between each board to allow for expansion.

  • Each plank is ripped so that all the vertical boards in a shutter are the same width.
  • The cross pieces (battens) are 5" from the ends.
  • On shutters greater than 60" tall a third (middle) batten is standard.
  • All the boards are beveled and sanded prior to assembly.

Bermuda

Bermuda Bahama

Bermuda shutters (also sometimes called Bahama) are similar in construction to Open Louver shutters, the difference being Bermuda shutters are desinged to be hung in front of the window with the hinge along the top edge. When a Bermuda shutter (one per window) is opened it swings vertically up and out from the house

Because a single Bermuda shutter covers the entire window they tend to be quite large, so an extra stile is added vertically down the center of the shutter for added strength and stability.

Specifications for Bermuda

Bermuda shutters are typically mounted in front of the window with a "push out" type hinge arrangment where the hinges are on the top edge of the shutter and the shutter swings out in front of the windows (rather than opening to either side as Open Louver shutters do)

Advantages

Bermuda shutters are used to block sight lines while allowing light and air to pass through and in situations where there is no room for Open Louver shutters to the sides of the window.

Bermuda shutters are also sometimes used as dividers or screens. For example, we have built a number of these shutters to block sight lines into restrooms at pools.
