Peter Sikora – President, CEO
Once upon a time, a homeowner went looking for wood shutters for his house. After much shopping around, he realized that what he was searching for didn’t exist. Where could one find well-built wood shutters that didn’t cost an arm and a leg and that didn’t take a month or more to get? Being a naturally handy fellow, he took matters into his own hands (literally) and set out to build his own shutters. The rest, ladies and gentlemen, is history.
The mastermind behind Wood Shutters Direct, Peter is a classically trained design engineer with a penchant for functionality. Having spent many years designing and producing components for an extremely well-known computer company, Peter finally decided to trade in his C.A.D. program for a tape measure and a set of router bits and opened up Wood Shutters Direct.
Says Peter: “The risk of leaving a highly lucrative career to pursue my own business was a bit daunting to say the least, but I knew in my heart of hearts that WSD would be successful for 2 main reasons – one practical and one idealistic. Practically speaking, Wood Shutters Direct fills a huge void in the exterior shutter industry – getting solid shutters inexpensively and fast, and being able to do it entirely on-line. The second reason, albeit idealistic and perhaps a bit cliché, is that taking a shot at your dream is a guaranteed way to achieve success regardless of the financial outcome. Luckily, fortune has smiled upon us.”
Jacen Stein – Vice President, COO
Jacen joined Wood Shutters Direct shortly after its inception. Having spent way too many years, as he says “...wearing starchy clothes in a grim corporate office” creating advertising and marketing campaigns as a Creative Director and marketing guru, he has found his true niche working alongside Peter at the shop. Peter’s technical know-how combined with Jacen’s marketing and business savvy makes for an extremely successful combination.
Says Jacen: “As a fella who is also good with his hands, I’ve finally found a gig where I am able to combine my talents. I can build an awesome shutter and then turn around and proudly market the thing. It’s immensely fulfilling to understand this business from the ground up and to utilize your skills to make it flourish. We all truly dig what we do on a daily basis and I think it shows in our product.”
